Welcome to the 2010/2011 academic year.
Hopefully you had a relaxing and enjoyable Summer . Many thanks to all of you who attended our Courses either in July or August or both! Our Courses ran the first week in July and the last week in August. We are considering a course in the second week of July in 2011 and would welcome your opinion on the suitability of that time.
Our Autumn programme is outlined under ‘Courses’ please check the area that is relevant for you. Further details will be available over the next few weeks. Please remember that we are continuously editing the website so remember to check www.ecwexford on a regular basis.
Our final celebration of ‘Enniscorthy 1500’ is the Education Conference ‘ Education in Changing Times’ takes place on Saturday 9 October here in the Centre. See further information on this page. This is our first Education Conference and promises to be challenging and enjoyable. Tickets are limited so book immediately.
Our whole school Post Primary professional development programme commences this year on 30 August . Over 200 teachers from the Carlow area are joining us for a Subject Day where teachers will meet colleagues from other schools and have the opportunity to exchange ideas , evaluate their practice and share expertise. In October 5 Post Primary Schools will begin the TL21 project in conjunction with NUI Maynooth. We welcome our first opportunity to be involved with this project.
The Transition Year Health & Safety project will continue this year.
For Primary Schools, Reading and Maths are available for their planning day. A number of schools will work on the ‘Excellency Award ‘, schools are involved in various projects such as Peer Mediation, Use of i-Touch in the classroom, Something Fishy, Film Festival, Use of lap tops in teaching & learning , Samba Drumming and a myriad of other projects. Support is available for schools and teachers either on site or in the Centre.
Newly Qualified primary Teachers have 4 excellent workshops to support them at the beginning of their career. Check the dates on this page and register immediately.
Special Needs Assistants group SNASIE continues to increase in numbers. Courses were run for Post Primary SNAs in June and Primary SNAs in August. Thank you for attending in such numbers. Plans are progressing for the Diploma Course in conjunction with Waterford Institute of Technology and all members of SNASIE will be informed of progress. Follow up courses to the Summer presentations will run in Autumn.
Parents we have planned several Courses for you for Autumn and look forward to meeting you then.
Resource and Learning Support Teachers Primary and Post Primary monthly ILSA meetings commence in September.
Courses in ICT are planned from basic to advanced levels across a wide spectrum of curricular and classroom areas. If you are not proficient in the use of ICT why not come in this year and master a new skill?
In September teachers are re-energized and enthusiastic. It is difficult to maintain this energy and enthusiasm throughout the term. This year look after the whole you. Register for our Health and Well being Courses…you owe it to yourself.

STEPS to engineering in partnership with the Education Centres have in place a facility to provide flexible access to K’nex kits for your school.
The K’nex kits are available on loan to schools free of charge subject to availability Suggested uses for the kits are:
STEPS to engineering Xperience Engineering Competition.
To host a K’nex Event with an engineer in attendance.
To allow your school to host its own K’nex events.
For use with the science in schools programme run by Discover Science and Engineering.
The Something Fishy Project will run
again in 2010/2011.

Attention Teachers!
Whole School Training
Courses may be provided on an out reach base to meet a school’s particular needs. A minimum of 10 teachers are required. The Course could be provided in the afternoon, perhaps in lieu of a Staff Meeting or to a group of teachers from neighbouring schools.
