Lincoln University: Educational Doctorate
In association with Lincoln University we invite suitable qualified teachers to work towards an Ed Doc. The basic principle of this taught programme is to research, at Doctoral level, one's own practice.
Students undertake 5 assignments of 6,000 words each and a Thesis of 50,000. Students should consider 5 years as the normal duration based on part-time study, although earlier completion is possible. Assignments are all tailored to developing the focus and research methodology for the thesis. The first 2 assignments explore the literature and aim to clarify the thesis focus. The following two assignments are devoted to generating a research design and these are then combined in a detailed Thesis Proposal. Each student has a supervisor, access to electronic resources (both library resources and the virtual learning environment). Contact with supervisors is through email, phone, skype. There are 2 weekend study schools yearly, usually in October and Feb/March and also 1 week usually the last week in July. Study schools are at Lincoln, and students would be expected to attend these. However, where a significant number of students are recruited, it may be possible to provide some of the teaching in Ireland The fee would be around £2,200 per year - this fee remains the same for each year of the programme with no subsequent years increases. For this to take place in Wexford we would need a critical mass of approx 15 students.
