School Excellence Award

posted 12 Sep 2011 09:39 by Co. Wexford Education Centre

Primary Schools are invited to join the Project by forming a team of teachers to examine and evaluate ' Literacy: The Writing Process' in their school. ( Last year's topic: 'Classroom Management: Team Teaching and Co-Operative Learning' has been requested by schools who did not participate last year and numbers pending, we may also be in a position to accommodate these schools.)

School teams will attend the Education Centre or an outreach school 4 to 5 times during the year and will be guided, supported and encouraged throughout the process by an experienced facilitator.

The School of Education at WIT will issue a Special Excellence Award for schools who successfully complete the project.

This programme can be used by any of your teachers for accreditation purposes for Post-Graduate Studies (one 10 Credit Module) in WIT or it can simply be an award that the school receives for its involvement.

A formal awards ceremony will take place in April/May 2012 for schools who have successfully participated in the Project.

Incredible Years

posted 12 Sep 2011 09:36 by Co. Wexford Education Centre

The Incredible Years Teacher Training Programme is aimed at teachers of primary school students aged 4-8 years. It is a research-based programme developed by Dr. Carolyn Webster-Stratton at the university of Washington. It aims to improve children's competence, emotional regulation and problem-solving skills and reduce their behavior problems.
The objective of the programme is to provide teachers with effective classroom management strategies for managing misbehavior, for promoting positive relationships with difficult students and for strengthening social skills in the classroom.
Course participants will learn these strategies by watching short videos of teachers handling problem situations both effectively and ineffectively. In addition to learning new strategies, the programme will support teachers in implementing the new strategies in their classrooms and in setting up individualised programmes.
