Getting Ready for Secondary School

This resource is designed to help you support your child as they get ready for Secondary School. It provides you with an understanding of what Junior Cycle is about. The subjects how they are marked, how they relate to Senior Cycle subjects and what you might consider when helping your child choose their subjects.

There is much talk of coping with change as your child moves into second level. Remember this is the normal next step in learning and part of growing up. This resource will give you some tips on strategies or good life habits that build resilience. It’s important to identify who is most concerned about the change, you, or your child. Your own school experience, good or bad, should not be influencing your child’s fresh start in secondary school.

There are resources you can share with your child, bursting worry bubbles or using a timetable. You may however choose to use these for yourself as background information and use the suggestions in your own way. However, you choose to use the resources I hope you find them helpful.
