WILL "Chats" with Rachel O'Connor and Kathryn Corbett (Women in Learning and Leadership)

The WILL Network (Women in Leading and Learning) is continuing its’ series of WILL CHATS – an online forum for Aspiring and Inspiring Females Leaders to meet and discuss to leadership topics in Ireland.

Learning Outcomes

• To identify potential barriers to gaining a leadership position in Ireland in Education.
• To provide support and inspiration to overcoming those barriers.
• To establish a professional network for women in education.

Rachel O’ Connor, Principal of Ramsgrange Community School Wexford

Rachel O’ Connor, is President of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals, she has been the Principal of Ramsgrange Community School since 2013. Rachel served as Deputy Principal in the ETB sector for two years. Rachel worked as a Whole School Associate with JCT. She is a Leadership Associate with PDST delivering on both Misneach and Comhar for newly appointed Principals and Middle Leaders. Rachel is a co-founder of the WILL Network, launching a series of workshops ‘Aspiring Female Leaders in Education’, WILL Chats and WILL Brunch for aspiring and inspiring female leaders nationwide. Rachel is a qualified life and professional coach and a CSL Mentor also.

Dr. Kathryn Corbett, Principal of Bishop Galvin NS, Dublin

Kathryn is currently principal of Bishop Galvin NS, a large senior primary school in Templeogue, Dublin. She is a member of the IPPN Board of Directors. Previous to this, she was seconded to the National Induction Programme for Teachers (NIPT) as a Regional Development Officer. She also worked as Professional Learning Officer, a member of the senior management team with the Teaching Council. Kathryn completed her M.Ed. with Maynooth University, and in 2020 was awarded a PhD from UL, with her research on teachers’ professional learning. She also has a Diploma in Counselling Skills. She works as an occasional lecturer on the B.Ed. programme with Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education in Maynooth University, and on the Post Graduate Diploma for School Leadership (PDSL) with University of Limerick. She is the co-founder of WILL (Women in Learning & Leadership), a network for aspiring and inspiring female leaders in education.

Verona Murphy  has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wexford constituency since the 2020 general election.  Verona previously held the position of President of the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA).

Breeda Bermingham Breeda Bermingham is an award winning menopause coach on a mission to change the global story for menopausal and midlife women.Her research interest is Midlife Women, Menopause and Leadership. She coaches women individually and in group settings focusing on symptom management along with the positive aspects of menopause transition. The taboo around menopause continues to limit and disempower women in their middle years. It has to be removed in order to enable women to thrive. There is NO shame in being a menopausal woman in 2022.
