SEN Hour- Creating effective system of SEN provisions in Primary Schools
Introduction: Group discussion regarding Special Education, Inclusion and the importance of collaborative professionalism and communication in order to plan SEN provision effectively.
Development: Examination of the resource documents, templates and record keeping approaches that facilitate effective organisation of SEN support for pupils including Support Files, log of actions, support plans and review documents.
Review of principal models of provision available under the SEN Guidelines (DES, 2017) for organising SEN support including in-class and withdrawal models of support with discussion of the merits and demerits of each
The 3 key learning outcomes for participants.
- Participants will understand the need for a collaborative approach to planning and decision making regarding SEN provision in their schools.
- They will be familiar with the existing resources available to facilitate overall efficient deployment of the SEN team and the allocation of the most support to the pupils with most needs.
- They will fully understand the organisational aspects of individual pupil planning using a collaborative process involving all stakeholders.
They will appreciate the advantages and challenges of co-teaching approaches and be familiar with the methods involved in organising this approach within classes
