Communicating as a Professional - Talk as Reflective Enquiry

Primary and Post-Primary Teachers/School Leaders

communicating as a professional

Teachers are encouraged to be 'reflective practitioners' throughout their careers. Undergraduates and those pursuing post-graduate degrees are encouraged to keep a reflective diary. This practice does not always fit easily into our busy lives as practising teachers. There is a way, however, to combine reflection with collaborative dialogue about what is happening in our school that may lead to improvement in practice, the desired outcome of reflection. Reflective, collaborative dialogue/talk, can lead to improvement in practice individually and as a team.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be encouraged in their efforts to use data as the springboard for professional conversations
Participants will understand that reflection is an activity as well as a mental process
Participants will see that reflective inquiry and action research are twin activities that can lead to school improvement
