Teachers who currently hold or aspire to positions of leadership in post-primary schools The course will address the following themes:
Summary:
- Defining Middle Leadership with particular emphasis on new definitions for AP1 and AP2 posts
- Models of Leadership and their application
- Establishing and creating a vision for the role of the middle leader
- Leading teams
- Planning
- Managing meetings
- Managing conflict
- Preparing for Interviews
Learning Outcomes:
Having participated fully in this course participants will:
- Be encouraged to reflect on their practice as middle leaders
- Be equipped to learn from a broad base of similar professionals from similar school contexts
- Have gained insights into the role that will help them become stronger leaders
Date/Time: Wednesdays 6th, 13th and 27th November 2024 (This is a three-evening course totalling 6 hrs in duration)
Facilitated by: Harry Freeman
Harry Freeman currently works as an independent education consultant. From 2002 – 2015 he worked with the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) where his primary role was that of National Advisor to the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme. Harry has delivered CPD to School Leaders and Teachers in over 450 post-primary schools across Ireland. The numerous workshops he has facilitated include Middle Leadership, The Role of the Year Head and Positive Behaviour Management.
He was also strand leader of the Master in Education degree course in Positive Behaviour Management at Trinity College Dublin from 2010 - 2021. Previously, Harry taught Mathematics and Information Technology at Marino College, Dublin 3. His website can be accessed at www.harryfreeman.ie
