‘Greening Our School’.
The main objective is to encourage learners to become even more aware of green issues and how their school, classes and the individual can be agents of positive change. Teachers can pick an area or initiative within the school environment for improvement or development in order to increase awareness of sustainability and green issues.
Five workshops to support teachers in implementing this project will be provided in each Centre, covering topics such as sustainability, green projects in the school environment, art and literacy activities related to the specific school project and the incorporation of Maths, Engineering & Technology in projects.
Schools are encouraged to be self-directed in their choice of project, they may choose to use this programme in conjunction with any other existing programmes or initiatives on which they may be working; for example Green Schools or Tidy Towns projects. The main thrust of each school’s Greening Our School project should be to increase awareness around the notion of sustainability
The School of Education, WIT will issue a School Excellence Award for schools who attend and successfully complete the Project. This programme can be used by any of your teachers for accreditation purposes for Post Graduate Studies (one 10 Credit Module) in WIT or it can simply be an award that the school receives for its involvement.
