Introduction to Pancake Tuesday Workshop
You are very welcome to this in class, live streamed workshop – whether you plan to cook along or just watch. We will be making a selection of 3 pancakes on the morning. Recipes, ingredients and equipment are listed below. You will need to adjust the amounts for the number of pancakes you want to make.

We will be making the pancakes in the order listed below.
General Tips for all recipes:
1. Use a good non stick frying pan!!
2. Have paper plates ready to dish up the pancakes.
3. Lidl or Aldi have the best value maple syrup.
4. If using fresh lemons – have them squeezed and strain the juice beforehand.
5. If your school is nut free and Nutella is not an option there are chocolate spreads available without nuts or you can make your own ahead of time.
6. Ensure the bananas are ripe – green or greenish bananas will not work well.
7. Kitchen towel or blue towel should be on hand for any drips, spills or clean ups required.

American Style Pancakes

Ingredients makes 4-6 pancakes Equipment

110g Self-raising Flour
½ tbsp Baking Powder
½ tsp Caster Sugar
1 Egg
1 tbsp Melted Butter, Plus Extra for Cooking
150ml Milk
To serve
Maple syrup
Toppings of your choice, such as cooked bacon, chocolate chips, blueberries or peanut butter and jam

Weighing scales
Measuring Jug
Frying Pan
Mixing bowl
Whisk
Fish Slice

Method
1. Mix the flour, baking powder, caster sugar and a pinch of salt together in a large bowl. Create a well in the centre with the back of your spoon then add the eggs, melted butter and milk. Whisk together either with a whisk (or electric hand mixer) until smooth, then pour into a jug
2. Heat a small knob of butter and 1 tsp of oil in a large, non-stick frying pan over a medium heat. When the butter looks frothy pour in rounds of the batter, approximately 8cm wide. Make sure you don’t put the pancakes too close together as they will spread during cooking.
3. Cook the pancakes on their first side for about 2-4 minutes or until lots of tiny bubbles start to appear and pop on the surface. Flip the pancakes over and cook for a further 2 minutes on the other side.
4. Repeat until all the batter is used up.
5. Serve your pancakes stacked up on a plate with a drizzle of maple syrup and any of your favourite toppings.
