Audience: Post-Primary Teachers and SNAs

Summary:
This course will cover the steps involved in setting up and running a special class (ASD). It will examine some of the challenges autistic students may face in school and provide practical suggestions for how a special class can help overcome barriers to education. It will also look at planning, timetabling, monitoring progress and working with outside professionals.

Facilitated by: Orlaith Kent
Orlaith has extensive experience as a SENCO at post-primary level. At present, she is running two ASD classes and delivering training to teachers and SNAs on Autism and SEN. Orlaith has no less than four, Level 9, Post Graduate qualifications (School planning, Leadership, SEN and ASD). She is currently doing a Masters Degree in counselling and psychotherapy with a particular interest in Autism and associated mental health issues.
